What is the BCDM?
A collection of open access short modules in discipleship and mission for lay people. Modules explore the Bible, the world and faith in everyday life. There is also an opportunity to take your learning further in a special BCDM Going Deeper year.
When and where is it taking place?
Modules happen around the Diocese in parishes throughout the academic year.
Find out details and how to sign up here.
Who can take part?
The modules are open to everyone who wants to engage more with their faith and grow in discipleship and mission. We aim to ensure that modules are accessible to people with all levels of academic ability and different learning styles and teaching is participatory and interactive. Content is accessible for those with basic to intermediate knowledge of the Bible (or to those who have completed the Alpha Course). Each module consists of 10 hours contact time, usually in five 2-hour weeknight sessions or occasionally two or occasionally three longer Saturday or Sunday workshops. |

How much does it cost?
The price of each module is £25 per person and this can be paid via the online registration form or by bringing a cheque made out to Coventry Diocesan Board of Finance to the first session.
Groups of 3 or more from the same parish receive 20% discount and pay £20 each. If a module is taking place at your parish church, you can attend for free.
How do I progress through the certificate?
There is an open access 'Module Pool', which you can dip in and out of at your own pace. Three sets of modules will help you develop your learning and gifts in different areas:
Explore Modules (brown)
These modules have a broad focus for anyone who wants to grow in their faith and understanding in a range of areas related to the Bible, the world and faith in everyday life.
Develop Modules (green)
These modules are core subjects which give participants the grounding they need to explore many different aspects of their faith through the framework of The Mission of God.
Go Modules (gold)
These modules are practical ‘how to’ modules on a variety of areas of Christian ministry inside and outside church on a Sunday.
Those who are going to be licensed as Readers need to complete all of the above, and there will be some additional training for Reader candidates.

Read more below about the BCDM
BCDM aims:
- To equip and empower people to engage with their faith in their everyday life and give people the theological grounding they need to do this;
- To see people passionate and excited about the Bible, the daily walk of faith, able to think theologically in ordinary life and able to communicate their faith confidently and effectively with others;
- To produce high quality modules on every area of faith in everyday life, the Bible and ministry, building on the areas of the 8EQs;
- To create a body of lay leaders out of BCDM who empower others through small groups or other means, building confidence and biblical knowledge and recognising their call to join in with the Mission of God as agents in the world; marketplaces, workplaces and homes, as well as those who have increasing leadership roles in the Church itself.
Developing healthy churches via the 8 Essential Qualities is the core strategy of the Diocese. The BCDM responds to the results of the Healthy Churches survey, helping to grow churches by addressing the weakest essential quality.
This current theme is Passionate Spirituality, one of the 8EQs of healthy churches defined by Natural Church Development. Modules will help you to be bolder in your faith, experiencing the transforming influence of your faith in all areas of your life and use the Bible as a powerful guide for everyday decisions of life. Modules will encourage you to read the Bible on your own, enjoy it and get the most out of each reading session. You will gain the ability to communicate your faith clearly to others.
