Bishop gives lecture at Warwick University

On Monday 28th November, the Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, delivered a lecture at the University of Warwick as part of their Excellence in Education Lecture series. The lecture was entitled ‘The Teacher: character, capacity and competence - exploring the characteristics of great Teachers and how they can be sustained and developed.’

In the lecture, Bishop Christopher drew on his experience of the education of clergy and from his observations of the teachers in the locality, in particular those in the 76 Church of England Schools and Academies in the Diocese of Coventry. He explored how teachers might not only be educated to high standards and trained proficiently for their tasks but also formed in the virtues of character that make for the excellence of the teacher as a person and, thereby, the teacher’s capacity to live up to the high calling of this most noble of professions, and to remain within it.
