Christoph Schalk visits the Diocese
28/07/17
Christoph with the Acceler8 team

On the 12th July, the diocese hosted specialist coach and church growth expert, Christoph Schalk. The day proved to be inspirational and was well supported by clergy and laity across the diocese.

Christoph Schalk, the International Natural Church Development (NCD) director and expert coach, travelled from his home in Germany to offer training and to provide inspiration to church members. During the day he led workshops for both the Healthy Churches team - advising them how to support churches engaging in the NCD process - and also members of the Acceler8 team who are connecting with 20s and 30s. Both teams gained immensely from the experience and felt better equipped to serve the many churches in the diocese that are applying NCD principles.

In the evening, Christoph spoke to around 100 clergy and lay people in the diocese on the subject of ‘Empowering People’. He explained the benefits of understanding six growth forces that are frequently at work in churches, focusing particularly on ‘Energy Transformation.’ He remarked that at the heart of this lies the notion that obstacles or problems can be viewed as potential resources. Many people left ‘Empowering People’ excited and enthused by all that Christoph had shared and with renewed commitment to helping people live out God’s calling for their lives.

Tim Mitchell, Healthy Churches Development Mentor, says:

“We could not have hosted Christoph Schalk without the support of many people, not least the staff and members of St Mary’s Church, Leamington Spa and the Archdeacon’s team all of whom who were incredibly supportive throughout. I think Christoph’s presentations were outstanding and I hope we will feel the benefits of what proved to be a wonderful day for many months to come."
