4x4 vehicle delivered to Kaduna Diocese
4x4 vehicle for the Diocese of Kaduna in Nigeria

Our Diocesan Lent Appeal this year was to raise funds to help our links partner, Kaduna Diocese in Nigeria, to replace their four wheel drive vehicle which was beyond repair. We are pleased to announce that Kaduna Diocese have now taken delivery of the vehicle.

Bishop John said,

"I am delighted that the response to the Diocesan Lent Appeal enabled a 4 x 4 vehicle to be bought to replace the aged truck that was being used in our Link Diocese of Kaduna.  It was warmly received, and the vehicle will be put to good use in accessing remote rural areas.  Thank you to all who have given towards this."

Their previous four wheel drive truck was 16 years old and had reached the end of its useful life.  It was costing large sums to try and keep it on the road.

The vehicle will be used particularly for access to rural areas as Bishop Josiah takes his clergy out into this difficult terrain on regular visits, talking to local chiefs and leaders and planting new churches in villages.  This usually results in a mud-brick church being built, which also doubles as a school.

Coventry Diocese has followed up this church planting programme by providing funding for water wells in these rural areas where infant mortality is still 25%.  So far we have provided funding for wells in 37 villages, although 6 wells have not yet been dug partially due to lack of a reliable four wheel drive vehicle.  The 4 x 4 vehicle will also be used as a mobile medical clinic, taking doctors and drugs out into certain rural areas.  This vital work had been under threat.
