Arabian Bites is now open

A new exciting cafe has opened in Coventry! Arabian Bites is a vegan cafe specialising in Middle Eastern cuisine and is staffed entirely by refugees. The social enterprise cafe was the idea of St Francis of Assisi Church, Radford who are working in partnership with Coventry City Council and Central Methodist Hall to run Coventry's newest eatery.

Arabian Bites was born out of the work St Francis of Assisi Church does with refugees. The church runs sessions for the council on employability skills and teaches ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) lessons. It soon came to their realisation that the best way for people to learn about working in the UK is to actually do it. Therefore Arabian Bites was set up to give refugees the opportunity to learn firsthand the skills needed for work and to practice English in real life settings.

The volunteering programme enables refugees to do a food hygiene course, take regular English lessons, get invaluable work experience and be supported in looking for work. Currently the church is working with almost 300 newly arrived refugees and are keen to keep helping and supporting more as they come into Coventry. Not all refugees are from the Middle East, lots of different people are welcome on the programme.

As a social enterprise, Arabian Bites does not operate for profit. Their outcomes are to help promote integration, community cohesion and understanding and tolerance. Refugees from the Middle East are also able to share their culture through the food on offer. Customers can choose from a delicious selection of hummus, falafel, stuffed vine leaves and more.

Arabian Bites officially opened on the 12th May and has already received a number of five star reviews on Facebook. The team even catered for the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, during his visit to Coventry earlier this month.

Arabian Bites is based in Central Hall on Warwick Lane, Coventry and is open from 5pm to 8pm Tuesday to Saturday. You can find them on Facebook and contact them for bookings or enquiries on / 02477 677178.
