Blue Coat CofE School Remembers
16/11/18

Lou Peet, Chaplain at Blue Coat Church of England School and Music College writes about Blue Coat's Remembrance Day services.

At Blue Coat School we are passionate about living out our core values of Care, Hard Work, Respect, Integrity, Servanthood and Togetherness (CHRIST). Never more so that in our Remembrance Day services on Friday 9th November 2018 and the week of reflection preceding this.

Our students and staff were all given the opportunity to engage with a reflective ‘Thank You 100’ activity from the Royal British Legion where they reflected upon what it means to be peacebuilders in a world of conflict and pain.

Our staff and students wrote down reflections, prayers, artwork and poems and during our Remembrance Services throughout the day these were ‘laid down’ as an act of worship and thanksgiving for those who have gone before. Seeing a ‘sea of thanks’ growing throughout the day was a humbling and emotional experience for all.

Our year services throughout the day included the Coventry Litany of Reconciliation and considerations of what reconciliation looks like personally and corporately, modelled upon God’s reconciliation plan at the cross of Christ. Not only are we to be reconciled to one another and to God… but we are individually called to the ‘ministry of reconciliation’ (2 Corinthians 5:18) – what a privilege and responsibility!
