This weekend, the Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, is launching a new initiative at Radio Plus called ‘Think Spot’ with a Christmas message.

Think Spot, which will be broadcast on Radio Plus on Sundays, encourages us to all set aside time to think. Similar to BBC Radio Four’s popular ‘Thought for the Day’, Think Spot will involve different contributors offering reflections on questions, seasonal events and news from a faith perspective. The programme will be mainly aimed at young people aged 18-35 in Coventry.

Bishop Christopher’s Christmas message explores culture in Coventry. He talks about the cultural events that have taken place this year to celebrate the centenary of the Diocese of Coventry, including concerts, exhibitions and poetry from the Poet Laureate. However, he also noted that culture is more than music, sport and art. He says:

“Culture is also about the quality of our relationships, how we treat each other in our homes, our schools, our places of work, our churches, and in our communities. Someone once said that culture is how we do things round here. The unique lights of Coventry shine through; our beautiful diversity and our willingness to welcome to refugees, our instinct for reconciliation, the talent and potential of our young people, and the richness of our history.”

The Bishop also talked about the darker side of culture in Coventry, particularly violent crime, youth poverty, hunger and homelessness. He ended his message by calling on the young people of Coventry to shape the culture of the city for the next generation.

The Bishop’s Think Spot will be first broadcast on Radio Plus (101.5FM) during the last five minutes (8.55am) of David Stone’s Sunday morning breakfast show on the 23rd December. A video of the message will also be available on the Radio Plus website on Sunday from 9am.

Radio Plus are looking for more people to record messages for Think Spot in the New Year. If you are interested, please contact michael.jones@radioplus.org.uk .
