Empowered Conference - 12 October

Empowered is a one day conference to share ideas and think about nurturing faith in children – for parents and those who work with children in schools and churches. It will take place on the 12th October at Harris Church of England Academy in Rugby and tickets are free.

The conference is run by the Diocese of Coventry but is open to people from churches of all denominations and regions. The day will be split into three parts; there will be worship with music from Pop UK, a keynote talk from Lynn Alexander and a range of practical workshops that attendees can choose from.

Lynn Alexander is the author of Children, Families and God, a book that gives advice and guidance on how to nurture children’s spirituality. She has worked for two large churches overseeing everything to do with children and their families. Lynn travels the country visiting churches and dioceses speaking about how the Church can help children develop in their faith.

Workshops taking place on the day include, ‘Godly Play Taster’, led by Peter Privet from Godly Play UK; ‘Bringing the Bible to life for Children & Youth’ led by Andy and Catherine Kennedy from Youth With a Mission (YWAM); ‘Creative Ways to Bring the Bible to Life in Schools and Church’ led by Jane Butcher from Barnabas in Schools, and ‘Be Creative with Clay’ led by Lesley-Ann French from LA Ceramics. In total there will be fourteen exciting workshops taking place and participants can choose two to attend.

Empowered is an excellent opportunity for those who work with children and families in churches, as well as parents / guardians to network together and encourage and learn from each other about how best to nurture faith in children.

Gareth Davies, Children and Families worker at St John the Baptist Church, Hillmorton is part of the committee organising the conference. He says:

"As someone who works with Children and Families in a church setting, I am constantly aware of the need for good resources, encouragement and support within this important area of ministry. Not just for myself, but also for those that work with me and the parents and guardians I come into contact with as well. This conference is a brilliant opportunity to address that need and I am really looking forward to being part of it".

The conference is free to attend with lunch included. It takes place on the 12th October from 9.30am to 4pm at Harris CofE School in Rugby (CV22 6EA). Tickets are available through this link until the 28th September.
