C. of E. represented at the Wedding Show

On the weekend of 18-19th January 2014, the Mothers' Union will be joining clergy from the Diocese of Coventry to run The Church of England stand at the West Midlands Wedding Show. Held in the prestigious Jaguar Exhibition Hall at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, the Wedding Show is expected to attract 3,000 people as it showcases everything required for couples who are planning their wedding.

The West Midlands Wedding Show is an opportunity to meet couples 'on their turf' in a non-threatening setting specifically designed to allow them to ask questions.  Couples are often nervous about approaching the church for a wedding, and can feel hypocritical if they are not churchgoers.  A friendly face to talk to can make all the difference, and first impressions count when it comes to any future relationships they may have with the church.

Even if a couple is not marrying in church, we can still offer to pray for them and show that we care.

Last year the Mothers' Union made a very simple 'Prayer Tree' from a branch, and couples were invited to put their names and the date of their proposed wedding on a heart-shaped tag and hang it on the tree.  Sixty couples were delighted to take up this offer.  We gave away some love-heart sweets and some very attractive book marks with appropriate wording.  Our stand was always busy, we had the Diocesan Directory to hand to help out with local churches and the names of clergy, if asked, and we gave away free copies of the excellent Church of England Wedding Packs.

Over the weekend, clergy from around the Diocese were on hand to chat and answer any questions. They all expressed their enthusiasm and enjoyment of the event and were pleased to be working in partnership with the Mothers' Union.

The West Midlands Wedding Show is a wonderful visual representation of our enthusiasm and support of Christian Marriage.
