Celebrating 20 years of women's ordination
Women priests representing each of the twenty years since the first were ordained in 1994

On Saturday 10th May at 11am Coventry Cathedral hosted a service to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the ordination of women. Attending the service were women ordained from every year since 1994. Through hymns, readings, reflection and prayers, this special Eucharist provided an opportunity to celebrate the role of women in the priesthood.

The service was led by the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, Bishop of Coventry and the celebrant was the Reverend Canon Katrina Scott, Dean of Women’s Ministry.

Before the service, Katrina commented,

"The joy of being the Dean of Women’s Ministry is seeing so many varied and diverse women in so many different ministries across the Diocese. We are very blessed by their calling, and the ways in which they share God’s love with the communities around them. This service is a wonderful opportunity for us all to come together and celebrate what has been achieved in the past twenty years and to look forward to the future to encourage those just starting on their journey towards ordination."

The Bishop of Coventry, the Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, added,

"Our diocesan celebration is a chance for us all to give thanks for the lives that have been changed, the people brought to faith, the parishes led faithfully and fruitfully over the last twenty years by our first generations of women priests. As well as celebrating the past, and all that God has been doing among us, we gather in the Cathedral to be commissioned together, women and men, young and old, for more of the same - the sharing of the wonderful, boundless and amazing grace of God in Jesus Christ."

All are welcome to attend this service of celebration.
